1. Start with a clean, dry (or shower-wet) head
Electric head shavers work on both dry and wet skin, so pick your lane. A dry shave is fastest for daily upkeep. If your skin is sensitive or you want the closest possible finish, hop in the shower first — warm water softens the hair and opens the follicles. Either way, remove oil and product buildup first so the blades glide instead of tugging.
2. Trim longer hair first
If you're more than two or three days into regrowth, run a trimmer or the shaver over the longest areas before the full shave. Multi-blade heads are built to mow down stubble, not week-old growth — trimming first prevents clogging and gives a cleaner result.
3. Shave against the grain in short strokes
Hold the shaver flat against your scalp and move in short, overlapping strokes against the direction of hair growth.
